First, air is dissolved in water under pressure to form dissolved air water; when the pressure is released, tiny bubbles are released. These bubbles adsorb impurities in the sewage (or flocs formed by pre-treatment with chemicals), making the overall density less than that of water, thus causing them to float up and form scum. Finally, the scum is scraped off, and the clear water at the bottom is discharged.
